Wow what a
show. DragonCon was everything we hoped it would be and more. A four day
show over the Labor Day weekend, DragonCon 2006 was estimated to be have
just over 40,000 fans in attendance. As befits a show such as this, the
amount of costumes on display was staggering, with some truly inventive
and amazing costumes to be seen. We have a few of the better ones in our
gallery, see the link at the bottom of the page.
It was a
marathon 4 days too. There was a never-ending parade of things to see,
from people and their costumes, to panel discussions, to artists and
tv/movie stars. Spread over 3 hotels, it was quite a workout as well,
running between the hotels all day long.
Though
DragonCon is a multi-format con, with gaming, fantasy, scifi, comics and
other genres represented, our focus was on the comics side of things and
we were not disappointed. Some great guests attended this year, and we had
the privilege of meeting most of them. We had a great response to requests
for interviews for our Creator
Chronicles series, we just wish there had been more time to
get them all at the show! Sadly, there was simply not enough time in
everyone's schedules to do so. However, we did manage to fit a few of them
in.
We did
several shorter interviews over the weekend, and everyone was really
great. We interviewed Steve Scott, artist for DC on titles such as
Shadowpact and JLA and some upcoming Creeper issues, Nathan Massengill,
inker for DC and several of Steve's books, and Chris Moreno, artist on The
Travelers and Sidekick.
We were also
extremely happy to get long, in-depth interviews with George Pérez, Al
Feldstein and Bill Sienkiewicz! They were absolutely fantastic, and
provided the kind of interviews that were exactly what we hoped to get:
candid, relaxed, conversational-style with a real feel for their
personalities and their histories. All of these interviews will be
incorporated into their own Creator
Chronicles DVD's and be released over the next few months.
Check the Video Products section for more details.
As usual, we
met many great people and we want to give a special thank you to the
following people: Arthur, Renee, Chris, Steve, Nathan, Jessica, Bryan,
Jennifer, George, Bill, Al, Rachel, Cat, Kathy, Don, Brandon, Paul
and Misty.
DragonCon
2006 was a major success for us. We came away with some great interviews
and made many new friends, and some great plans for the
future.
